December 14th - Unibroue Blanche de Chambly

When I realized tonight's selection was from Canada, I thought of this song immediately.  Above, I present to you, The 12 Days of Christmas by Bob and Doug McKenzie.  You're welcome ahead of time.  If you don't give it a listen, you're most definitely a hoser, and from what I read, that's a derogatory term.  You don't want to be a hoser, do you?

Tonight, from the Great White North and Unibroue we have their Belgian Style White Ale, Blanche de Chambly.  Bottle refermented and brewed with coriander and orange peel, I have a feeling it's going to take me back quite a few years, eh?

Flashback time

My first style of craft beer that I truly enjoyed was the Belgian style.  When my brother-in-law and I would really spend some cash on something other than Lionshead, we would usually opt for the Belgians.  The spicy yeast profile and the crisp orange flavors really did it for my emerging palate.  When he and his wife were moving back into the area, he trusted me with his kegerator and a half barrel of Hoegaarden.  Needless to say, after that I needed my own supply on tap.

In addition to my recent Tavour order coming in, I also got the call from a disc golfing buddy that my case club order was also delivered right around the same time.  Since I've been overdoing the west coast stuff, I figured I'd delve into the case club package and see what I could enjoy that may be easier for you to find and that I've not had before.

Didn't get the badge tonight...must need a few more to meet that criteria

Upon logging this into Untappd this evening while writing, quite a few of my Untappd friends enjoyed this also, giving it a pretty mediocre 3.5 out of 5 rating.  I'm not expecting anything earth-shattering here in the Belgian category, yet I'm also assuming it will be enjoyable.

This Belgian poured a hazy golden amber color with a thick off-white head at the top.  The aroma was orange peel and coriander, pretty straightforward for the style, and just what I would expect.  The body was pretty light, but definitely a crushable beer at only 5%.  The spiciness from the yeast makes up the majority of the flavor profile that is coupled with the orange peel and coriander spice.  Honestly, there isn't anything else here worth writing about.

Not really.  The beer was true to style, don't get me wrong, but nothing blew me away, and maybe that was the point.  I got exactly what I expected here and maybe that is just a testament to how well this brewer nailed the beer to the style.  I'll stick it in the middle of the road, at a 3.5 out of 5 myself.
